Looking for relaxing way to stay in shape?

Kayaking could be a relaxing way to take in nature, relieve some of your daily stress and have a great workout at the same time.

More and more people are discovering the joys of kayaking.  It’s easy to do, you don’t need a lot of expensive equipment and it doesn’t matter is you have a group of people of just yourself.  Over-all, it is an activity that just about anyone can pick up quickly, but there are a few tips that can help you get the most out of your time on the water.

Make sure that you load the kayak so it’s stable.

By making sure that the weight of the things in your craft is evenly distributed and centered, this includes being balanced right to left and front to back.  Making sure that your supplies are properly balance, will make maneuvering your craft easier and safer.  Packing things unbalance, could make the odds of tipping higher.

Bring along some back-ups.

Bringing some extra clothes, snacks or food, drinking water, matches and flash-light can come in very handy.  Weather can change very fast at times ant these item can be a nice safety measure.

-          Pack things in water-tight containers.  Bringing along a extra change of clothes doesn’t do you any good if they get wet.  The same goes for your matches, food, cell phone and other supplies.  Plastic zip bags are great for these items.  They come in a variety of sizes and will provide a water tight seal without taking up extra room in your kayak.

Practice makes perfect.

Even though it is a very easy sport to pick-up on, like everything, there are different technics that you can learn to make your outing more enjoyable.  You can practice the different paddling sweeps and draw on each trip out.  With the age of the internet, you have an unlimited amount of videos and training at your figure tips.

Start out slow.

You don’t want to try to tackle fast water your first time out.  Just take it easy, get a handle on the feel of your kayak and how it responds to different water flows and current.

By taking things slow, planning your excursions and being prepared for the unexpected, kayaking can open a whole new world of experiences and memories.  It’s a great way to explore areas that you would never have known where there and an activity that you can do for years to come.
